What Marine EVA Decking Sheet Is

Marine EVA decking sheet is a closed-cell ethylene-vinyl acetate foam. Closed cells do not soak up water, so the sheet stays light and does not hold water on deck. The foam is soft and grippy underfoot, wet or dry.

Fabricators buy it as sheet, then cut swim platform pads, helm pads, cooler tops and full deck kits from it. A two-layer build has one colour on top and another below; when you route a line or logo into the top layer, the lower colour shows through. A three-layer build adds a third colour.

The same sheet is used as pontoon boat decking material and pontoon deck material, where large flat decks need a soft, non-slip surface.

Genuine 3M Adhesive, Traceable by Batch

The adhesive decides whether a deck pad stays down in sun and spray. We laminate genuine 3M adhesive to the back of the sheet, 3M 9775WL o 3M 99786 , chosen to suit your deck.

Before laminating, we pre-coat the foam surface so the adhesive wets out fully and bonds evenly across the whole sheet, with no dry spots or lifting edges.

With every order we can give you the 3M batch number of the adhesive used and the supporting report, so you or your customer can check it is genuine 3M. SANSD is an authorised 3M converter.

Colours and Surface Textures

Colours are built in layers. The name gives the top colour first, then the colour underneath: route a line or logo into the top layer and the lower colour shows through.

What is the best material for boat decking pads?

Most foam boat decking is made from closed-cell EVA foam. It does not soak up water, stays soft and grippy underfoot when wet, and can be textured, layered in two or three colours and backed with adhesive.

Do you sell marine EVA foam as sheet or as finished pads?

Both. This page covers sheet for fabricators who cut their own pads. Finished pads and deck kits are on our foam boat flooring page.

Which 3M adhesive do you use?

We laminate genuine 3M 9775WL or 3M 99786 adhesive onto a pre-coated foam surface, so the adhesive bonds fully. With each order we can provide the 3M batch number and the supporting report.

How do I know the adhesive is genuine 3M?

We give you the 3M batch number of the adhesive on your order and the supporting report, so the adhesive can be traced. SANSD is an authorised 3M converter.

How durable is the sheet in sun and salt water?

Our marine sheet has passed a 3,000-hour ageing test, and the test report is available. Closed-cell EVA does not absorb water, so the sheet stays light on deck.

Can you make two-layer sheet for routing logos?

Yes. We make two-layer and three-layer colour builds. When you route into the top layer, the colour underneath shows through, which is how logos and lines are added to deck pads.

Can you match the texture and colour of the sheet we use now?

Yes. Send a sample and we match the texture, colours, thickness and backing, then send a free sample for approval.
